Starry Light

This project began with a simple idea: a desk lamp that reminds us to appreciate the sky, the stars, and the people we share them with. The lamp features twinkling LEDs illuminating a star pattern that mirrors the constellations on the night I was born.

The process was far from simple. As my first experience with many tools and techniques from Stanford’s Product Realization Lab (PRL), I faced unexpected challenges—oversized components, mismatched tolerances, and equipment constraints. Each hurdle taught me the value of adaptability, creativity, and collaboration. The result: a beautifully chaotic learning experience and a lamp I’ll always cherish.

Stuff I’ll Pretend I Always Knew

Plan for tolerances—always think about how parts will fit and function before fabrication.

Embrace the chaos: every challenge is an opportunity to learn.

Reflect on mistakes to grow both as a designer and a maker.

It’s okay to cry once (but only once).
