Clover

For my undergraduate Product Design capstone project, we were given the freedom to design anything and bring it to life. With a shared passion for home design and community, my team decided to create a piece of furniture. After countless hours of needfinding, brainstorming, and research, we brought Clover to life.

Clover is a modular living room chair designed to enhance hosting experiences. It serves as a stylish lounge chair but can quickly transform into multiple seats, instantly tripling seating capacity. Clover’s innovative, comfortable, and versatile design makes it the ideal all-in-one solution for any host.

Outcomes

Clover transforms from a single lounge chair into three distinct seating units.

The final product balances aesthetics with functionality, featuring a minimalist, modern design that fits any living space.

Our team received positive feedback from users during testing, especially for its ease of transformation and comfort.

Needfinding

Ideating

Explored dozens of ideas, from modular tables to multi-functional chairs. Every idea was on paper.

Interviewed small-quarters homeowners and observed hosting setups to identify pain points like lack of flexible seating and comfort.

Constantly revised based on user feedback to balance usability and design.

Developed and tested low-fidelity prototypes to refine form and function. These prototypes ranged from miniature 3D-printed scale models to full size foam-core builds.
